Terry was born in Melbourne and spent the early part of her life in the bay-side suburb of Williamstown before moving to Geelong and then the Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria. She trained as a nurse before succumbing to her love of drawing and painting and studied Art and Design at Melbourne’s renowned Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University Art College. This allowed her to further her long interest in drawing and painting, especially in oils. Her main subjects have always been the human form, still life and landscapes, especially her use of colour and the effect of light with inspiration from the classical masters and the impressionists.
After holidaying in Noosa many times, she moved there permanently in 1992 and began painting full time. She is now based in Brisbane. Inspired by the sub-tropical light and climate, her love of colour has come to the fore. Her work has gone all over the world as holiday makers in Noosa fell in love with her use of colour and her capture of the “feel” of the sub-tropics and the outback.
Prolific in still life, landscapes and figures, Terry’s confident use of colour and light gives her work a unique atmosphere and life.
Her work is equally at home in modern or traditional settings at the work place or home and is displayed in galleries in Brisbane, New York State USA, Cairns and Melbourne.
